Whisper
A whisper once told me to never be afraid
Not of the dark, not of the heights,
Not of the monsters they hide.
A whisper once told me to not be ashamed
Of my color, of my race,
Of the very sanctuary, I call my place.
A whisper once told me to not be furious
To the people who have hurt me,
To the ones who always cover what I see.
That whisper told me to be tough.
That it was not the dark, nor the places,
Nor the people that have scarred me.
Within lies the one.
The faint murmur of my being.
A haunting pain from days gone by,
Lingers still and makes me sigh.
A gift of time, too fleeting to grasp,
A present that slips through my fingers fast.
Life’s moments, like sand, slip away,
Leaving me longing for just one more day.
A tomorrow unimagined, yet to unfold,
A world of possibilities, yet untold.
That was then I came to see,
Soft whispers, voices, and plea,
Of the old me, long unspoken,
Now heard, and not to be broken.
May my words find ears that heed,
A heart that listens with care indeed.
